Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What do you do?

A. The vast majority of our work is loft conversions in Surrey, South London, West London and SouthWest London. We also build extensions and do whole house refurbishments.

Q. How long does it take?

Of course the duration depends on the work required, but we find a typical loft conversion is usually complete within 6 to 10 weeks.

Q. How much does it cost?

Prices range from £5,000 to £1m depending on the project. Whatever work you require, we’ll provide a competitive quote. If our quote is outside your budget, we are happy to look at where we can trim some cost and make it more affordable for you. Just ask!

Q. What’s included?

We do everything from design to decorating, and all our quotes can be tailored to suit you. Just let us know if you would like ornate oak Shaker doors instead of basic fire doors, or you’d prefer coloured paint or wallpaper instead of plain white paint, or you want tiles other than standard ceramic ones, and we’ll re-quote accordingly.

Q. Is the price fixed?

Yes. Once the scope of work is agreed, we do accurate calculations and provide you with a fixed quote so you know exactly where you stand. The only thing that might affect the price is if we uncover an unexpected problem while the job is underway, for example, if we need to change the boiler, or lift floors to move pipework. If this happens, we will re-quote in advance of doing any extra work. And, of course, the price may change if you ask us to do more than was originally agreed.

Q. What about planning considerations?

We will deal with all building regulations and planning issues for you. We’ll let you know if you need to get a party-wall agreement, and whether your project is a ‘permitted development’ or you’ll have to get planning permission. With years of experience in the local area, our tried-and-trusted architects know what’s likely to get approved. We know all the council planners and they know us! Throughout the planning stage, we’ll make the process as hassle-free as possible for you. And, on completion, we’ll arrange for the Building Control Certificate.

Q. What do we need to do?

You need to do some shopping! If we are installing a new bathroom, you should buy the bathroom suite you want and we’ll fit it for you. For kitchens, you buy your desired kitchen units etc. We’ll help. For example, before you choose your tiles, we’ll advise the exact area that needs to be covered, so you can buy the right amount.

Q. What else do we need to consider?

We recommend you discuss any planned building work with your neighbours, especially if your house is terraced or semi-detached. This helps maintain a good relationship with them, and avoids hassle while the work is in progress.

Q. Why should we choose a specialist loft conversion company instead of a general builder?

At Loftscope, we have specialised in loft conversions since 1996. Our tried-and-trusted architects can produce loft conversion designs that pass quickly through planning and will maximise the space you get. Our trades-people are all employed for their experience in converting lofts. And our office staff have years of expertise in dealing with loft conversions, so can answer any question you may have.

Q. What other work have you done locally?

You can check out some of our recent work in our gallery and case studies and read testimonials from satisfied customers. Meanwhile, many of our clients are happy to show you around their homes and talk about the work we did for them. Please contact us to arrange a viewing.

Q. When can you quote?

Request a quote or call the office on 01932 703 616 to book an appointment, we’ll visit your property as soon as possible.
